Leader of the Majority Party in the National Assembly Aden Duale has allayed fears of sabotaging BBI agenda after failing to attend last Saturday National Sensetisation Forum in Garissa Township.
He defended his absence in the rally attended by all the NEP leaders saying he will attend BBI rallies that his party leader president Kenyatta and his Deputy Dr William Ruto will attend to champion the unity of all Kenyans.
Duale, the Garissa Township MP expressed concern that the BBI debate has been politicised with leaders creating campaign mood as if the 2022 are round the corner.
“Now we are not in an election period and Kenyans need development more than anything else. The Jubilee Government is in the process of fulfilling its campaign pledges under the Leadership of president Kenyatta which needs support of all”, he said when he appeared on NTV Live show on Tuesday night.
Duale said the main reasons President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga introduced BBI after the famous March 9, 2018 ‘handshake’ was to harmonize the country as the Head of State implements his legacy projects.
“The goal President Kenyatta wanted was to unite Kenya where no one will fight because of an election”, he stressed.
During the one on one interview with NTV’s Ken Mjumba, Duale spoke on different issues other than BBI that are seen as pressing on Kenyans. They included the latest transfer of functions of Nairobi county government to the National Government, education crisis in NEP Region following withdrawal of teachers over insecurity, among many State issues of interest.
Duale said in the interview that the nobel idea of President Kenyatta to unite Kenyans through BBI has been politised by leaders who have changed the Building Bridges Initiative rallies to succession rallies.
Duale is seen as a key strategist for both President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto since he is their eye in Parliament as leader of Majority Party in the House. He will play a pivotal role when the BBI report will be presented to the August House before it finally goes to Kenyans for a vote during the referendum.
He was quoted recently saying he will decide which direction the BBI report takes when it is brought to the House.
