The Leader of the Majority Party in the National Assembly Aden Duale came out boldly today and wrote to the Speaker Justin Muturi urging him to summon MPs for a special sitting Wednesday next week to discuss mitigation measures against Covid-19.
The Special sitting is expected to discuss and approve emergency funds contained in a Supplementary Budget.
The summoning of the Lawmakers comes under the background of crisis the nation is facing due to Coronavirus pandemic with today’s confirmed cases reaching 59 of people who have tested positive in Kenya.
The situation has prompted Duale who is third in Command by holding high profile position in the National Assembly to seek approval from the Speaker to have legislators sit and address the hard economic times hitting on lower cadre refered to as Wanjikus brought by the virus.
According to Duale’s letter to the Speaker also copied to the Clerk, Mr Michael Sialai, during the Special sitting MPs will also discuss the nominees to the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) and the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) board.

“I therefore request that the proposed Special sittings of the House takes place on Wednesday, 8th of April, 2020 at the National Assembly Chamber, Parliament Buildings commencing 10.00am”, Duale’s letter to Muturi says in part.
