Teachers Service Commission CEO Dr Nancy Macharia is expected to appear before a Parliamentary Committee to explain the paralysis of education in Northern Kenya following the withdrawal of teachers over alleged insecurity.
Leader of Majority Party in Parliament Aden Duale said Ms Macharia will appear before the Education Committee on Wednesday.
“We know TSC connived with the Ministry of Education to remove teachers from North Eastern region. We want Nancy Macharia when she appears before the committee on Education to explain why this happened”, said Duale.
Duale said leaders in the region were ready and willing to work with the government to stabilize the area in addressing security threats.
The Garissa Township MP was speaking in his constituency over the weekend where he touched on a variety of issues.
He supported President Uhuru Kenyatta’s determination to implement education for all children as dictated by the new Constitution which came into effect in 2010.
He said the ongoing BBI debate through countrywide National Sensetisation rallies was not a priority in Northern Kenya and outlined three issues that needs to be discussed.
First, Duale said leaders in the region need to discuss why schools have closed down.
Secondly, he said insecurity is a matter that needs to bring leaders and other stakeholders together.
Finally, Duale said they need to discuss the disputed 2019 census which leaders in the region have rejected.
And in what appeared leaders in the region were not taking the matter of census lightly, the Lawmaker said “We are not going to accept one man one vote, but we will push for one man one kilometer”.
He at the same time announced that leaders from the Pastoralists communities will meet to make their stand known on census and cited North Horr constituency as among electoral areas where the one man one vote policy cannot be applied.
He accused the Bureau of Statistics for allegedly doctoring the census results in the region in order to deny the people more constituencies and wards.
“We have the raw data which was obtained by Bureau of Statistics before it was later doctored”, he said noting that they are ready to fight for their right.
