Wajir gubernatorial race has a new entrant. A seasoned politician, a different breed – a forthright politician who would rather die than lie, the sitting senator of Wajir County.
In a well attended and well choreographed function at Sir Ali Muslim Grounds in Ngara, Nairobi on Sunday 27th February 2022, Dr. Abdullahi, popularly known as Dr. Kabreta, announced he will run for the position of governor for Wajir County in the August 2022 General election.
Noting that the Ajuran are amongst the major stakeholders of wajir county and that they remain the only community amongst the big 3 not to have occupied the office, Dr. Kabreta underscored the imperatives of laying a claim and asking other communities to show reciprocity by supporting Ajuran gubernatorial quest. He also underscored his two year long campaign advocating for Ajuran to seek wajir gubernatorial office.
Tracing his childhood educational paths through township primary, gurar primary, wajir primary and garissa primary, Dr. Kabreta underlined his bona fides as reer wajir as unassailable.
Touting his strengths of courage and fairness, which were affirmed by nearly all speakers at the event, daktari, as he is fondly referred to by friends, promised a dedicated and responsive service devoid of fear, favor and corruption.
He wondered why ANC, which reported Ajuran hoi polloi desire that one of their own contest the wajir gubernatorial seat, decided to sanction senatorial seat which has very limited latitude to make a difference in the lives of the citizenry.
Acknowledging the courage of Ajuran leaders who showed solidarity with him, senator Abdullahi urged leaders to show courage and faith in Allah and desist to settle for less.
The jewel in the Ajuran National politics, Dr. Abdullahi has over 26 years of experience in national politics spanning stints at national assembly, parliamentary service commission and the senate. A medical doctor by profession, Dr. Abdullahi schooled at Wajir High school, Kangaru high school and University of Nairobi. He also holds an MBA from Moi University. He was the pioneer Member of Parliament for Wajir North where he served two consecutive terms. He also served ten (10) in the Parliamentary Service Commission. He is the sitting member of the Senate, where he represents Wajir County.
Neither a controversial figure nor a rubble rouser, but daktari has proved he has principle and belief system that he jealously guards. He has clashed with the high and might in defense of his constituents and he has come through in the hour of need for his people.
As he gears up for the gubernatorial contest which is a crowded field full of worthy opponents, Daktari will pull no punches and the courage he has so often displayed is likely to come through for him. The good people of wajir are likely to cross old prohibitions boundaries and tap this one great fit for the bastion of diversity of Northern Kenya that’s Wajir County.
Go go daktari!!
