MESSAGE TO WAJIR COUNTY TEACHERS AHEAD OF THE KUPPET ELECTION
Dear Esteemed Teachers of Wajir County,
As we approach the KUPPET elections scheduled for Saturday, 24th January 2026, I wish to address you with deep respect and understanding, fully aware that this period has been emotionally demanding for many among us. Elections, by their nature, stir strong feelings, and it is normal for concerns and hurt to arise along the way.
However, it is important to remind ourselves of the core purpose of our union: to protect teachers’ welfare, promote professionalism, and provide a strong, democratic voice for educators. These ideals can only be sustained when we uphold free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections.
Mr. Adan Kasim, a long-serving educationist, has emphasized that any credible election must be anchored on democracy, integrity, and fairness. Speaking ahead of the January 24th 2026 Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) elections, Mr. Kasim said the process should genuinely reflect the collective voice and will of teachers, free from manipulation or personal interests.
The educationist, who is also eyeing the Wajir County senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, noted that union elections play a critical role in safeguarding teachers’ welfare and strengthening democratic culture within professional institutions. He called on educators to participate actively and responsibly to ensure leadership that truly represents their aspirations.
This election is a one-day voting exercise. I urge every teacher to turn out peacefully and freely choose the candidate they believe best represents their vision and interests, without fear or intimidation. At the same time, let us resist anything that may fragment our unity. Our strength as teachers lies in our togetherness and mutual respect.
Let us be the mirror image of the society we wish to build. After the election, one among us will be elected, but all of us must continue to work together as professionals bound by a common calling.
To the candidates, I appeal for patience, tolerance, and respect for the verdict of the teachers. Let us take this election in the spirit of a football match—where players may compete fiercely, but once the final whistle is blown, they shake hands, embrace, and move on with mutual respect.
I strongly urge everyone to avoid anarchy, violence, or inflammatory conduct. While teachers’ elections can be emotive during complaint periods, history has shown that during voting, teachers are mature, disciplined, and respectful of the rule of law.
Let us also remember that our students are watching us from a distance. They observe how we conduct ourselves, and they will emulate us because they believe that a teacher is always right. Let us therefore set an example worthy of that trust.
Finally, I take this opportunity to wish all the candidates the very best in their endeavors. May this election strengthen, rather than divide, our union and our profession.
Yours in service and professionalism,
ADAN KASSIM FARAH
Chief Principal
