WAJIR– Mr. Adan Kasim, the esteemed Principal of Wajir High, has joined the nation in commemorating Tree Planting Day on Friday, May 10, 2024. Leading by example, he spearheaded the planting of trees within the school compound, standing in solidarity with Kenyans mourning the loss of loved ones to floods across the country.
Mr. Kasim pledged to plant a minimum of 50 trees, contributing to the government’s ambitious target of planting 200 million seedlings by day’s end. Expressing empathy for families affected by the recent floods, he commended state interventions while emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship.
Later in the evening, Mr. Kasim, an advocate for climate change initiatives in education, led the management of the County Guest House, a prestigious four-star hotel, in planting an additional 50 trees to promote environmental sustainability. Notably, during his tenure at Koroharar School, he transformed the landscape, and at Furaha Mixed Day School, he achieved a milestone by spearheading the institution’s transition to eco-friendly practices with support from donor agencies.
Addressing the press, Mr. Adan Kasim stated, “I stand united with our President, HE William Ruto, in the government’s mission to plant one billion trees through the National Afforestation campaign.”
Furthermore, Mr. Kasim urged non-governmental organizations championing climate change to educate the public on global challenges and provide training and capacity-building initiatives.
Reflecting on a tree planted by the then Deputy President, Mr. William Ruto, Mr. Kasim emphasized its symbolic growth, transforming the school into a green haven. He highlighted the staff’s dedication to preserving this tree, symbolizing the president’s presence within the school.
Encouraging the Wajir community, Mr. Kasim urged proactive measures to safeguard the environment, advocating for afforestation to combat deforestation.
