Wajir High meets MOH, MOE Guidelines to contain Covid-19

The management of Wajir high school led by it’s Principal Mr Adan Kassim has come out with a unique style to combat Covid-19 pandemic. The steps taken by the school to contain spread of the virus in the school compound is welcoming.

In one on one interview with the ARF MEDIA GROUP, the Principal Mr Adan Kassim said the first step they have taken as a school is to make its compound clean with sanitation being number one. “We have ensured that all our toilet are clean to avoid the spread of the disease”, he pointed out.

Mr Adan Kassim also noted that the school has eight thermoguns which are strategically placed in different places from the gate, Administration block and in the classrooms. “The thermoguns help us to monitor the students and the staff temperatures while they are in the premises of the school”, he said.

The other unique style the school has set to contain the spread of the virus in the school is having an isolation room for quarantine incase a student develops signs of the disease before being rushed to a health facility. Inside the isolation room there are two beds and the room is cleaned thoroughly.

The School has set a Covid-19 committee chaired by the principal with teachers as members who meet regularly to discuss the safety of the students and the school staff.

Mr Adan Kassim also said there is enough water in the school compound. Washing hands with soap starts from the main school gate with modern system that one will not use hands to run the water from the tank to avoid spread of the virus, he added.

Wearing a face mask is mandatory in the school compound both by the students, teachers and the staff. Mr Kassim further confirmed that teachers wear hand gloves for precautions measures against the disease.

The school management has futher prepared themselves against the spread of the covid 19 by putting in place immune boosting recipes to boost the immune system of the students. These include Ginger, lemon and garlic which are added to tea and food.

Practicing social distance of 1.5 meter apart rule is well adhered to both in the kitchen, assembly and classrooms. The form four class has 146 students, 25 students per class in 6 classrooms.

The school administration has also reduced the Assembly meetings to one day a week which is held only on Fridays. All activities in the school like football, volleyball and clubs activities have been ordered banned by the Principal.

Senior Principal Mr Adan Kassim said “As the management of the school we will meet all protocols that were identified by the ministries of health and education. Our responsibility is to protect our students and staff from the spread of this deadly disease”.

With Wajir High School having put in places all measures to protect the spread of Covid-19 Mr Adan Kassim is confident that the school is on a safe ground.
