Secondary Schools around the Nation celebrated in style just hours after Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu released the 2022 KCSE results. And the results were the first under new administration of President William Ruto in less than 6 months in office.
Wajir High school in the results maintained its tittle of being the mother of all schools in NEP region. It is celebrating the exemplary 2022 KCSE results despite critical challenges the class faced that included and not limited to teachers exodus, drought in the region and the Covid 19 Pandemic.
The total number of students who sat for the 2022 KCSE exams were 159 candidate and 103 of them scored C+ and above which is a direct entry for university. The School had a mean grade of 7.12 (C+) unlike in 2021 KCSE examinations where the mean score was 6.68, a big improvement.
The 2022 good performance also saw the school eliminate Ds and E scores.
In one on one interview with ARF MEDIA GROUP, The Chief Principal and educationist Mr Adan Kasim alias AK applauded the Education Minister for what he termed commendable job that ensured of no ranking among schools and no anxiety during the examination period. He noted there was total order by the ministry of education during the entire exercise.
The Chief principal further predicted that with new administration in President William Ruto’s reign, there will be total sanity in the education sector since CS Eziekel Machogu was an administrator who is well versed with issues related to the ministry.
Mr Kasim said he was expecting more reforms in education sector in lighn with President Ruto’s manifesto on education.
The exemplary performance of the school has been attributed to the first Education visit after taking oath of office by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Mr Ezakiel Machogu and Education Director General Mr Elyas Abdi. In the memorable tour the two give talk to the form four students.
Mr Machogu was once a board member for Wajir High when he was the then District Commissioner of Wajir. The C’s has a historical relationship with the institution.
Mr Kasim petitioned parents from Wajir County whose daughters and sons had scored top grades in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) not to take them outside the County since it has become a center of excellence in academy. He said the institution of higher learning in the County is equipped with modern facilities, good teachers supplemented with good Board of management who can meet the dreams of the children.
Mr Kasim further appealed to all political leaders in Wajir to invest in the School since it is a pioneer education center in Nep region. He noted Wajir High school needs more infrastructure compared to other Sub-County schools. He further stated for the school to rub shoulders with other national schools it needs the attention of elected leaders, old boys , parents, donors, Government and well wishers to reach its target.
The long serving Principal paid a special tribute to the form four class of 2022 who joined the school in 2019 the year Covid-19 ravaged the country.
Despite admitting students with even 220 marks Mr Kasim was proud of them for performing well and now joining university of their choice. He said “We coached them well in class and prepared them further for the world to become resourceful persons in the society”.
The Principal sent a special request to Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi to offer County bursary fund to the needy students who managed to be selected to join Wajir High School so that they don’t go to school without the required facilities and later drop out because of school fees. He urged the governor to consider students affected by the prolonged drought facing the County.
The Chief Principal Mr Kasim commended all schools in NEP region whose performance in the 2022 KCSE examination had improved.As a top notch educationist the principal urged school heads to do collaboration and networking for the purpose of students’ success.
Mr Kasim joined Wajir High in 2017 and today the school has celebrated a lot both in improved performance and infrastructure. The Principal is going against all odds to make the school a centre of excellence and according to him, sky is the limit.
