Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi flags off foodstuff for vulnerable people to beat COVID-19 pandemic

The Wajir Governor Amb. Mohamed Abdi Mohamud today flagged-off food distribution consignments destined
for persons with disabilities, people living with HIV/AIDS as well as those Quarantined in isolation facilities and vulnerable families within the County.

During the flagging-off exercise the Governor was joined by targeted people like disabled personel who witnessed the release of the foodstuffs.

Addressing Members of the Fourth Estate, the Governor regretted the current situation of a global challenge brought by Coronavirus pandemic where people are facing starvation due to lack of food especially the less fortunate in the Community. Such people, he said need extra care this time to cushion them from these effects.

Governor Mohamed Abdi said “as government my administration will ensure the less fortunate members of society in our Community will be provided with food”.

The Governor also added “We have procured 3165 bales of Sifted Maize Meal, 1819 cartons of Cooking Oil and 1400 cartons of Dates to address access of food for the vulnerable population”.

Later the Governor flagged-off another food distribution consignment to religious leaders, who are affected after Madrasas and mosques were ordered closed by the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The Governor said the religious leaders play a vital role in the community and therefore need to be assisted to cushion them from effects of the virus.

Dr Adan Yunis, the Regional Coordinator, Suprem Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) North Eastern Province who witnessed the flagging-off of the foodstuffs towards the religious leaders thanked the County government for the generous offer during this hour of need to address Covid-19 which has affected all globaly.

Dr Adan said the religious leaders retreated to their homes since the mosques and Madrasas were closed despite having families who need food on day to day basis. “I thank the Governor for realizing that the religious leaders need an extra care during this pandemic period”, he said.

On his 12th press statement on Covid-19 Governor Mohamed Abdi confirmed two more new cases in the County rising the total number of those who have tested positive to 17. The Governor said the victims are in stable conditions as he assured that the County Government is ready and prepared to fight Covid-19.

The Governor urged Wajir people to adhere to all the guidelines that the Government has put place like staying at home, washing hands, wearing mask as well as keeping distance and avoiding crowded places.
