On World Water Day, Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi showcases flagship projects in sector

Today being the World Water Day was marked globally with focus on water and climate change – and how the two are inextricably linked.

Here in Kenya stakeholders pushed for adapting to the water effects of climate change to protect health and save lives.

In Wajir County, Governor Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Mohamud’s regime is devoting attention on water through drilling of new boreholes to ensure the commodity is adequately supplied. And the challenge to stakeholders is to use water more efficiently to reduce greenhouse gases.

Water was among the key pledges of Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud during campaigns and has devoted to its implementation. The governor has made a remarkable percentage in implementing the promises he made water sector being among them.

The Governor has targeted rural areas which previousy relied on water tracking methods, but now they have access to permanent boreholes. The recently completion of drilling of Korondille town borehole in Wajir North Constituency and is expected to supply water depth of 278m and 15 cubic meter.

The other borehole with high yield was drilled at Singow village, Tarbaj sub-County and was recently handed over to the Members of the Public.

Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud made a major breakthrough when the new water kiosk disalination was commissioned recently.
The new project, first of its kind in NEP region has seen installation of water kiosks-desalination where people of Wajir town are drinking clean and save water.

The Governor has also put in measures to ensure all the boreholes a cross the six sub-counties are well maintained. The people of Wajir County are Pastoralists Community and have been accustomed to rely on water as the key development agenda following Governor Mohamud’s mission to make Wajir water supply is 100% guaranteed.

The Governor’s promise in water sector has been welcomed by the locals perticularly the pastoralists who are now using water throughout their development endeavors. The livestock which is the residents economic benchmark in Wajir County are now in high production courtesy of adequate supply of water.

The successful implementation of water projects in Wajir County is among the key legacy achievements which is earning Governor Mohamud a political Mileage for his re- election bid come 2022.
