Governor Mohamud leads Peace Mission to end clan flare-ups along Wajir-Marsabit border

The focus in Northern Kenya is on recent clan clashes along the border of Wajir-Marsabit counties that left a chain of both deaths and destruction of property as well as loss of animals.

The flare-ups prompted a delegation of leaders from both Counties to engage in peace talks directly with the affected people yesterday.

Wajir Governor Amb. Mohamed Abdi who led the delagation of leaders from Wajir County said residents in both Counties have previously lived peacefully as one people and both counties has a good relationship both on government affairs and matters of Livestock grazing.

“Our people visit each other and share alot together particularly when there is drought due to lack of rain”, the Governor said.

The Governor however condemned in the strongest terms possible the skirmishes witnessed recently and urged the communities to avoid such incidences living in peace and harmony across the border.

The Governor also cited the long relationship among the Pastoralists Communities across the two counties. He said the good relationship has remained for a long time and encouraged the communities to keep the same spirit.

“In this twenty first century Globally, Community conflict is an outdated culture and we need a society that is developed like other countries globally which such culture is not practiced”, Governor Mohamud pointed.

The convoy of the Governor later visited the internally displaced persons who were affected by the clashes and distributed food and non food items from the County Government in conjunction with Kenya Red Cross Society Wajir branch office.

The Governor send a message of comfort to the security team whose Police Chopper crashed in the line of duty as they were on the way to join other leaders in the peace mission.

Top Police Chiefs sustained serious injuries and were later flown to Nairobi to receive specialised treatment. The Governor wished them quick recovery.
