Governor Mohamud leads Gedo-Wajir Peace talks

Wajir Governor HE Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Mohamud presided over a two day cross border peace dialogue between the Communities living across the Kenya-Somalia border.

The Elders and Opinion Leaders from both communities have agreed to end bloody clashes and border conflicts to live together in peace and harmony.

Those Communities living across Kenya-Somali border are 100% Pastoralists and have long relationship like sharing water, pasture, inter Community marriages and sharing Humanitarian assistance from different donors and well-wishers.

Speaking at Wajir County Guest house, Wajir Governor Amb. Mohamed Abdi said the communities living across Kenya-Somalia border have a long standing cordial relationship since independence. Governor Mohamud applauded elders from both Communities for taking a personal initiative to restore peace across the border.

The Governor said “Let both Communities abide by today’s Nine-Point Resolutions that were reached in consensus by the communites living across the border”.

The Nine-Point Resolutions were drawn from grievances aired by Communities living across the border for the interest of achieving peace across the border.

The two sides agreed to forming cross border commitee to restore peace and harmony, sharing of Humanitarian services, elders to meet quarterly for peace deliberations, documenting and sharing information on cross border infectious diseases like Covid 19, livestock trading among others.

Later elders agreed unanimously that they will abide by the Nine-Point Resolutions to restore peace across the border.
