Governor Mohamed Abdi Signs an MOU with Kenya Red cross Society to boost Disaster Management for benefit of Wajir People.

The Wajir Governor HE Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Mohamud and his administration is Closely working with international organisations to boost the humanitarian and safety of the lives of the people through different Humanitarian Assistance.

Today at the Headquarters of Kenya Red Cross Society Society (KRCS) situated at Boma in Nairobi the Governor led a team of County officials into signing several development agreements that will see KRCS initiate programmes in conjunction with Wajir County.

Through the joint collaboration KRCS will work with the County Government to enhance access to water (for domestic and livelihood use) and improve sanitation, Improved Health, hygiene and nutrition, Improved food security and livelihoods. Other joint ventures will include youth empowerment, Improved Community resilience to disasters and climate change, Strengthened disaster mitigation, preparedness and response, Joint capacity building and Enhancing policy frameworks within the County.

Speaking at the event that preceded the signing the MOU Governor Mohamed Abdi assured KRCS that his government is fully committed to it’s people particularly on Humanitarian Assistance which he assured will be fully Implemented once the work commences.

The Governor praised KRCS saying it was one of best Institutions that is really working with his Government particularly during the drought seasons and even now when Heavy rains are being experienced in the county which has caused floods and displaced hundreds of people and animals.

Besides the National Government allocating funds to the County government, Wajir Governor didn’t shy away from looking for assistance from International Organisations towards helping the people he represents.

The Governor reckoned the need to help his poeople to access better sanitation, access to Quality Education, access to better Health and Clean water which he termed as the key basic of every human being to enjoy across the County. He said his government is in the frontline to mitigate all that.

The signing of the MOU was witness by Dr Asha Mohamed, the Secretary General of KRCS and his deputy Mr Ahmed Idris and other officials of the Organisation.

The Governor thanked Dr Asha for her commitment to assist the County and assured his government will fully work with KRCS to help the people.

The joint venture between the County government of Wajir and Kenya Red Cross Society will be an eye opener towards humanitarian assistance of the County residency.

It will also go a long way in establishing a strong legacy for the Governor.
