Governor Mohamed Abdi receive Inter-faith Council team led by Deputy Chief Kadhi Sheikh Sukyan

A Delegation of Inter-faith Council on the National Response to the Coronavirus Pandemic led by Deputy Chief Kadhi Sheikh Sukyan Hassan today visited Wajir County where they held talks with different Inter-faith Religious Leaders.

The sensitization meetings concentrated on new guidelines to facilitate the reopening of worship places. The meeting took place at Raha Palace hotel and lasted five hours during which the religious leaders were sensitized on new guidelines as places of worship reopen.

Wajir Governor HE Amb. Mohamed Abdi who received the Deputy Chief kadhi at his office first said “as County Government we are welcoming the new guidelines from inter-faith Council and we are tasked with it’s full implementation in line with the guidelines in tandem with Ministry of Health rules”.

The Governor at the same time received the manual books from Sheikh Sukyan on the guidelines which are written outlining the General norms for the places of worship.

Governor Mohamud urged the religious leaders to ensure worshippers observe the guidelines including wearing face masks, washing hands, keeping 1.5 meters social distance, avoiding physical contact, using soap in a running water and sanitizer, follow set movement path and disinfect the places of worship regularly.

The Governor assured that the county Government was ready to help all worship places through department of health with masks and hand sanitizers. The County is ready to implement all the Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines, he stated.

The Governor also said the County Government will monitor all football fields, Livestock markets and the famous Soko Mjinga to ensure they adhere to Ministry of Health Guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. “It is our responsibility as a county Government to protect the locals from being infected by this deadly disease Covid 19”, the governor stressed.

The Governor welcomed Sheikh Sukyan and introduced him to top Government Staff and assured the Inter-faith Council team that the County Government will give all the support required for the religious leaders to adhere to the new guidelines as worship places reopen.

The Inter-faith Council on the National Response to the Coronavirus pandemic was touring Wajir County as part of it’s countrywide visits to differed counties to sensitize religious leaders on meeting of the new guidelines ahead of reopening of worship places.

The team through Sheikh Sukyan thanked Governor Mohamud for his pledge to assist religious leaders meet the new guidelines.
