Equity Bank Wajir Branch has today planted 500 trees in the compound of Wajir High School. The principal Mr Adan Kassim and Equity bank Wajir branch Manager Mr Shadrack Mutinda led teachers, the staff and students in the tree planting excercise. As a result the school compound is expected to turn green making it environment friendly.
Other than Wajir High School, different institutions also benefited from the tree donation which is part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) of Equity Bank of Kenya. They included Waberi Secondary School which received 1000 trees, Griftu Boys Secondary 300 trees and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Wajir camp 2000 trees. At the end of the exercise 23,000 trees will have been planted in Wajir county.
Speaking to ARF MEDIA GROUP during the exercise Mr Adan Kassim said Equity Bank has been along time friend of Wajir High school not only in planting trees, but the banking institution has sponsored 30 students through paying their school fees.
Mr Adan Kassim futher said the already 500 planted trees will help the school make it’s environment become green and a more beautiful environmental scenenario.
“We are glad to the good gesture extended to this School by Equity Bank of Kenya not only in donating trees for planting, but also sponsoring the education of a number of students”, he said.
Wajir High is one of the top schools that has made its compound green. The principal further said “It’s our responsibility to make a condusive environment for the learners”.
Mr Kassim who personally planted a tree while leading the staff in the exercise urged the school gardeners to protect the trees noting that trees provide life.
Around 30% of the planet is covered by trees and therefore they are majestic since they help biodiversity and can reduce climate change for the worst.
The staff of Equity bank Wajir branch and Wajir high school staff each participated in the tree planting exercise.
Mr Shadrack Mutinda speaking on behalf of the bank said “it’s our cooperate social responsibility to plant these trees. The trees will help Wajir County which is among the hottest Counties in Kenya. We will plant more trees to make Wajir green”.
Promotion of planting trees in Wajir County courtesy of Equity Bank of Kenya will go a long way in addressing environmental degradation as well as making the area more conducive to live in.
