Education blossom in Wajir North as Students receive 200 books courtesy of Rtd Major Shabelleo Foundation

Rtd Major Abdikadir Shabeleo has extended his charitable hands to Wajir North Constituency where students are to benefit from 200 books. This marks a milestone in boosting education standards in the area.

Through the Shabeleo Foundation (SF) the 200 copies of books will be distributed to three secondary schools in the sub county. The schools include Buna boys, Buna girls and Korondille Secondary Schools. The books were donated thro’ a successful Professional group-GEF that’s working to improve socio-economic development of the community in Northern Wajir county.

Speaking to ARF Media group via phone conversation Rtd Major Shabelleo expressed concern with serious academic challenges facing Wajir County. He said this calls for intervention from well-wishers to boost the education sector. However, he said he was impressed by a boy who scored grade A- from Buna Boys Secondary School in Wajir North Sub-County. The boy was number two in Wajir County in 2019 KCSE and such a grade was never scored in the Sub-County before.

Mr Shabelleo encouraged teachers to invest more in preparing the students as from form one all through to form four rather than struggling with the students at a last minute attempt. “A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, so teachers should prepare the students from form one class through to form four”, he said.

Shabeleo said that as County a lot must be done to change the standards of the Education. He urged stakeholders who include leaders, Parents, Education officials and students to unite and speak in one voice to eradicate grades E and Y in the County.

Shabelleo who is determined to reform education sector in the County for the better cited a quote by Former South Africa President Nelson Mandela “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Shabelleo said it’s only through Education that one can succeed to change the image of the Society and the Nation at large.

Recently there was a crisis in Education sector across the NEP Region brought by poor performance. Education deteriorated due to escalating attacks by Al-shabaab and lack of support from stakeholders to address security threats. He put leaders on the spot for only coming out to speak year after year criticising poor performance by students when KCPE and KCSE results are released.

Rtd Major Shabelleo promised to heavily invest in Education sector particularly in Wajir North Sub-County before expanding the same to the larger Wajir County.

On Girl Child Education Mr Shabelleo reiterated that educating a girl is like educating the whole nation. He castigated early Marriage and defilement cases among the girls and urged the government to take stern action against the perpetrators. He further stressed on defilement and urged the locals not to entertain such vices and instead let courts prosecute those implicated.

The major further stressed “I have big plans for the Sub-County on many other social activities that will change the lives of the people of Wajir North constituency”.

Mr Shabelleo is a Retired Major in the Kenyan Army who served successfully in different military ranks. He is currently a businessman and running a Charitable Organization Shebeleo Foundation (SF).

His determination to lead in championing for improving education standards in the region is a worth course and to him sky will remain the limit.
