Duale launches COVID-19 awareness initiative among members of Somali Community

Leader of Majority Party in Parliament Aden Duale today launched an initiative to create COVID-19 awareness among members of the Somali community.

He held a consultative meeting in Nairobi with Somali Eastleigh business leaders, prominent Somali Muslim scholars and agreed to have the program spread across the country to meet the Health and other Government COVID-19 protocols and regulations.

“As the Coronavirus disease continues to evolve, the Somali community Political leadership, Sheikhs and the business community is taking a proactive approach to help ensure the safety of our Kenyan community”, he said and added “The Eastleigh business community is working closely with County and National Health Emergency Covid-19 committee to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as soon as they can in areas where they predominantly reside”.

In a brief posted on his Facebook Page after the meeting Duale applauded the bold step taken by the business community in closing down businesses so as to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The Ministry of Health, Duale said conducted fumigation of all business premises and malls while Health procedures are being put in place for both the business owners and customers-ready to open.

During the meeting the Eastleigh business community and political leaders resolved the following: –

1-That business should be re-opened once the health guidelines are adhered to.
2- That all shops and malls to have sanitizers and hand wash.
3- That customers and shopkeepers observe social distancing.
4- Masks should be worn at all times.
5. Avoid gatherings including weddings and social entertainment.
6. Stay at home, protect your family, children, the elderly and those with medical conditions.
7. Abide by the cessation order of Government as announced by the President not to travel to and from Nairobi Metropolitan area, Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi Counties.
8. Adhere to curfew hours as gazetted by the interior ministry.
9. We also urge the Nairobi Metropolitan services to clear all garbages in Eastleigh and unblock all sewer lines.

The Leader of the Majority Party in Parliament stated “Coronavirus is real and it’s being spread by people. As a somali community and Kenyans in general let’s all protect lives , it’s not about the Government and CS Mutahi Kagwe, it’s a collective moral responsibility of all the 47 million Kenyans regardless of our ethnic, religious and social status”.

To the Muslims and Christian and people of faith, Duale said it’s now the time to turn to the Almighty God for prayers.

He thank sheikh Mohamed umul, sheikh Shakul, Mzee Ibrahim chair Eastleigh business leaders and other officials in working Government to create covid 19 awareness .
